“On 16-4-09, I had my first appointment with Giselle Brand, dietitian, that my G.P. – Dr Albert Ng referred me to for guidance on losing weight and becoming healthy. I was very impressed with her, Giselle is very easy to speak with and so professional.
I so look forward to my next appointment because she keeps me focused and encourages me to carry on. She is also so knowledgeable about food, the effects some foods have on your body and how important exercise is to gain your perfect weight and feel good.
I love the recipes I have been given. It makes it so exciting when you are preparing something different. I would strongly recommend Giselle, she is such good value and she so loves to help you.”
Barry Cook of Castle Hill, NSW (starting weight was 103.5kg, lost 13.5kg in 3 months and kept it off for 5 months and counting):
The key to losing weight and keeping it was for me – change. Change to what and how much I ate. Motivation and then knowing how were also key to me. My GP, Dr Margret Lim – provided the initial motivation to generally improve my health and well being. Giselle reinforced this motivation and then showed me how. There were three key how to things for me – firstly how much to eat, secondly what to eat and thirdly how to supplement the impact of eating with exercise. This was all reinforced by recording my eating and exercise patterns. Giselle guided me through these activities and her energy and enthusiasm were a significant factor in my success. I have changed what I eat, how much I eat and how much I exercise and this is a new lifestyle for me. Thanks for your help Giselle.”
Hugh Lee of Eastwood, NSW:
I forgot to tell you how useful the information and advice you have given me during the 3 visits. Although I may not be a 100% good follower, I keep on reminding me of the do’s and don’t’s. As Medibank says, I feel better now.
Mohan Coomaraswamy, Oatlands, NSW:
I tried every thing possible for many years without a hope in sight. Finally enters Giselle and the search was over.
We met when I decided to take the bull by the horns one day and decided to meet her in the clinic. Her dietitian acumen and skill was commendable. My immediate observation was, here was a dietary genius who can see the woods from the trees. How good was that? When a myriad of pickings was the order of the day that went nowhere and my situation seemed hopeless.
She had a disarming smile which stopped all inhibitions in its tracks. We chatted for the next half hour as I was on my lunch break and had to run back quickly. Preaching to the converted she was not and professed many a trick up her sleeve.
Without much ado and with a flourish of her pen jotted something and handed me my winning program. That turned my life over from one of confusion and self-doubt to one of confidence and self-worth.
As if she had my crystal ball of dietary DNA in her hand, she proposed that I follow a diabetes-aware lifestyle. From that day on, my blood sugar levels started to ease off little by little. Just to indicate how fast things could move well with her. I started to feel great again.
Thanks to Giselle, I am now a convert to the gospel of a balanced eating habit, a GI-controlled dietary menu and regular exercising regime. I recommend anyone with diabetes or any other eating/dietary problems to her.
As for me I will keep an eye open for the worthwhile information she provides on a day to day basis on her web site www.conceptnutrition.com.au”

Hi Giselle,
Thank you so much for your time the other day. You definitely went beyond what I expected and what many others would do. You come across as genuine, professional and very knowledgeable in your field.
You’re the first person to connect and understand why I came to see you and what I needed from our appointments. You amazed me with your accurate description of my life, mentality and my personal issues which prevent me from living my life to its fullest. You knew my goals before I even told you. I felt comfortable speaking with you and confident I would benefit from meeting you. After our first appointment I can’t help but feel indebted to you. Change is difficult but with your support and approach, I believe that things can change. It’s definitely time to lighten up.
Thank you & I look forward to our next appointment.

Hi Giselle
I would like to leave a little comment for anyone interested in consulting with you about dietary advice, and also for anyone else who regularly visits this website.
I ate junk, drank junk, and lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. I hated myself, was ashamed of myself, and didn’ care about myself. A self perpetuating circle of disgust and destruction. I was always going to do something about it, and yet couldn’t bring myself to do it. I never felt that I was worth it. I used to weigh as much as
155Kg – 160Kg.
In September of 2009, I was diagnosed as Pre Diabetic (insulin resitance), I was 36 Years old and weighed about 148Kgs. A blood test I had indicated a fasting insulin of 24! As a result I was referred to an endocrinologist who I saw in early November 2009. From the visit with the Endocrinologist I was put on Diabex (increase insulin production) and Reductil (appetite suppressent for weight loss), as well as a very strict no carb diet.
So OK, I followed the diet, took the medication, and thought, I don’t know what to do. I felt on my own with no information, no support, and no idea.
So using Google I found the website for the Dieticians Association of Australia, looked for an Accredited Practicing Dietician (APD), and found Giselle’s details. So I organised an appointment to see Giselle in late November 2009.
I found that this was the best thing I have done for myself in years. Giselle is genuinely interested in your lifestyle, what you do, your habits, and how together, you can change what you eat, and what you do, to be healthier and happier, and achieve your goals.
I felt so much better, having some direction, knowledge, and support, to eat better, lose weight and feel happier. I even got an SMS from Giselle on my birthday (Who Does That!).
Working with Giselle, we discussed and set up portion control of meals, wrote out realistic and achievable goals for me to reach between appointments, and I discarded the diet from the Endocrinologist and followed a better way of eating, and have never looked back.
I have found that not only do I want to achieve my goals for myself, I also enjoy going to my appointments with Giselle to share in the goals I have achieved, and also that there is some accountability in my goals with Giselle which really helps me to keep on track.
I think the key for me has been the fantastic support and encouragment from Giselle, as well as some helpful and amazing information I have found on her website – concept nutrition.
Currently (27/02/10), I now weigh under 130KG, I feel healthier, happier, and fitter than I have done in many many years. A Glucose Tolerence Test I had last week showed a Fasting Insulin of 4.3, and after 75g of glucose and 2 hours later, my Insulin was 5.7! My Endocrinologist was happy to tell me that I am not diabetic, he was also very happy with the weight loss, and wants me to keep it up.
Lastly, I can remember just over a year ago, going to an event with some friends, that required us to walk about 2Km to the event. My god I thought. With a huge struggle, I made it, but I found it extremely hard of course. Just before we went to our seats, I remeber the feeling of shame that radiated through my whole body at the condition I was in when one of my friends looked at me. A feeling that I hadn’t had the likes of before, nor do I wish to ever experience again.
Now, almost 20Kgs lighter, I do feel so much better, and I never want to feel ashamed like that ever again. I hope that if anyone out there, has experienced anything like myself, know that you are not alone, know that there is help, and there is a way. You don’t need some fad diet, or even the Biggest Loser, you need to be willing and wanting to change for YOU, no one else, just YOU. When you are ready for that, then with guidance, support, knowledge, and encouragement you will achieve what you want to. For me, I have been able to do this with Giselle, and she has helped me to keep ontrack, achieve my goals, and I am now under 130Kgs for the first time in about 10 years.
Thank You Giselle, for all your help, support and encouragement. May you and your family enjoy happiness and health. Keep up the good work!
Cheers.
I am very impressed with the level of service this small business provides. Giselle has an in-depth understanding of the the psychology of weight management and definitely has her heart in the right place.
During our first consult, she got me to cut through the marase in my head by setting small, achievable, realistic and time-bound goals for my health. After that she got me in touch with what truly motivates me in my life to get up and do the things I need to do to have my life and my health work for me.
She tells me that if I have a compelling “why”, I can endure any “how”. So with that we dug down and unveil the whys that make me want to make a difference and transform my health. After that we put together a tracking sheet with my goals on it and concentrate on tracking my health enhancing day to day behaviours. She says that by concentrating on the actions and behaviours, the desirable health outcomes will take care of themselves. What a sensible idea to losing weight and reducing my blood cholesterol level.
Thanks to Giselle Brand for her kind patience, I have finally unveiled my very own Holy Grail for wieght management. She is so right in saying that no amount of drugs like Lipitor, Crestor, Cardia or Metformin can undo any “dis-ease” if I do not first do the hard work within to stop my overeating in reaction to the non-optimal conditions in my life. She is so incredibly wise!
Thank you very much Giselle for helping me on my journey within. I am deeply grateful for all you have done for me. I have lost 7kg and no longer need to take Lipitor to lower my blood cholesterol level.
I highly recommend Giselle to anyone looking for a dietitian in Sydney.
